Pokemon SoulSilver Version (+ Pokewalker accessory) reviews

I'm going to start right out with it. BUY THIS GAME! This game is amazing on many fronts which is why it deserves a buy if you have a DS (maybe even buy a DS to play this game).

Gameplay: 10/10

The gameplay is as fresh as ever. The formula that GameFreak put down so many years ago still works. If you have already played any of the previous Pokemon games, there are basically no changes, other than the fact of the addition of a few mini games and a pokemon can walk behind you. For newcomers, here's how the Pokemon formula works: You start an adventure with a starter pokemon, and then train to become the best pokemon trainer in the world. You do this by defeating other trainers who roam the land while also catching some extra pokemon of your own. The formula is straight up addictive and the plot is also well done.

Graphics: 8/10

It's pokemon on the DS. The game uses the same graphics engine as Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and yes, the graphics aren't top notch. I have definitely seen better on the DS (Mario Kart being a great example), but once again, the entire point of Pokemon is the gameplay and the replay value, not the graphics. As a plus however, many trainers have new animations and some gyms just look really, REALLY good. The atmosphere outside of special events could've used some work though.

Sound: 7/10

I will admit it, I am getting a bit disappointed with GameFreak recycling their 8-bit recorded cries for the Pokemon on every single game. These cries are the same we had 10 years ago. On the other hand, the overall soundtrack is really good, and I have also heard there is a way to get the original soundtrack back in the game by achieving a certain item. In general, the sound is ok, but I think GameFreak needs to do a little overhaul with the Pokemon cries.

Replay Value: 15/10

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 16 BADGES! 3 TOTAL STARTERS YOU CAN GET! Straight up epic. I, in my own right, already thought that all the other games that only had 8 badges and one region were long enough, but WOW. This game is amazing (I already had the Japanese version, and have played to the second Elite Four, and it's taken me a good 40 hours already) in this criteria for sure.

Final Verdict:

If you have a DS, BUY THIS GAME. If you don't, BUY A DS, and then BUY THIS GAME. Amazing characters, amazing battles, amazing starter pokemon (who doesn't love them a nice Typhlosion?), and great replay value. You won't be disappointed.

I got this one week ago and I've been hooked on it ever since. It has amazing graphics, amazing gameplay, amazing storyline; this game just tops the series off.

There's plenty of new features, such as your Pokemon first in your party walks behind you, or the more use of the touch screen which is good if you're a touch screen fanatic as well.

Not to mention the large amount of legendaries you can catch! Just to name a few there's the box art legendaries, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, the Legendary birds, the Legendary dogs and many more!

Also, the new Pokewalker is a cool little gadget. If you're in the mood for some exercise, bring the Pokewalker along with you and it will give you advantages for the game!

A new sidequest called the Pokethlon, similar to the Pokemon Contests in previous games, lets you compete with a party of three Pokemon in athletic mini games against the DS. Each Pokemon has their own unique stats for the Pokethlon.

There is also a new icon, which is the replacement of Sinnoh's Poketch called the PokeGear. The PokeGear enables you to call Trainers you've registered or call a key character. This is similar to Hoenn's Match Call, except you can also tune in the Pokemon radio stations, look at the time and lastly look at the Johto and Kanto maps.

Overall, I think this game really is one of GameFreak/Nin­tendo's best games ever produced!

This is by far the most complete Pokemon game out to date. It combines all the well-known elements from previous games as well as new features which will keep you playing for days on end. Highly recommended.

My son love this game

Ok, the game is AWESOME. I was rather surprised at how they re-did all of it, and the fact that there is so much to do is insane. XD

My only problem is that, as this is an import, you can't use the Club Nintendo PIN that coms with the game, witch means no points towards any of the rewards. :(

This is a great game, even as far as Pokemon games go. I'm almost 19 now, and all of my friends who have Nintendo DS consoles own this game, and it's the first that we have been able to enjoy together for more than a few hours.

This game is packed with features, it may not be able to compete with console games in terms of graphics, but you can battle with your friends and play Pokeathlon mini games too. The friendly competition is great.

But how does this game promote fitness? It comes with a pedometer, known as a ‘Pokewalker’. This device tracks all your steps with amazing accuracy, and each goes towards a currency known as ‘watts’ which you can then use to catch Pokemon, or find items on the pokewalker.

The pokewalker also gives you access to exclusive Pokemon, with the yellow forest event route you can catch a Surfing Pikachu. The up side of this for parents is that in order for someone to catch these ultra rare Pokemon, the gamer must take upwards of ten thousand steps in a single day. And for the little ones who aren't concerned with the special attacks, you can transfer a Pokemon into the Pokewalker so you can “take it for a walk”. When the Pokemon goes back into the DS cartridge, a diary shows up which tell you how the Pokemon felt and the things it did during your whole trip. My little cousin loves reading this every walk.

If you're worried about your gaming child's fitness, buy them this game and watch the calories burn off.

Or buy two, because as I mentioned before, there are plenty of friendly and competitive game modes to enjoy and the Pokewalkers can interact with each other once per day so that the two Pokemon can play.

Gameplay: 10/10

To start of with if you have ever played any of the pokemon games and liked it this is for you what I liked is how the pokemon was more closer to you by it folowing you like in pokemon yellow and how when your not playing you can still have your pokemon with you by having the pokemon walker with you plus you get stuff for the game like items and exp. The story line is great and keeps you playing I would have to say its a must have for any ds owner

Graphics: 8/10

The Graphics are nothing new but I do think the gyms look awesome but the main thing for pokemon is the gameplay but it would be cool if it looked like mario ds that would blow my mind

Sound: 5/10

Pokemon hasent made thier sound better for years but it still is good but after playing it for awile you just block it out. I hope they make the pokemon make sound like pokemon that would make it cooler

Replay Value: 10/10

You could play this game over and over again its a blast I cant think of a game I would want to play more than twice other than this

Over all its one of the best games ever made by nintendo if you like a good game this is for you!

I bought this game 1 or 2 years ago and i've been non-stop playing it. The best game in gen 4!

One selling point that isn't widely known is that, with the help of Diamond, Pearl, and the Pokewalker accessory, you're able to catch all Pokemon up to the point of Soul Silver/Heart Gold's release. This doesn't include Black and White, as they came later, but it's something to note.

Mewtwo, along with the three Legendary Birds are all capturable, along with Kyogre (Heart Gold) and Groudon (Soul Silver) who were originally in Ruby/Sapphire.

The Pokewalker itself is a great help, allowing you to take Pokemon with you to increase their happiness and level them up. Though they can only level up once per trip, their happiness goes up the more you walk, making those hard-to-evolve Pokemon like Golbat and Togepi much easier to evolve into their happiness-based evolutionary forms.

It's a fantastic remake which, along with updating the already solid original game, brings a HUGE amount of new features to the table, not least of all the Pokewalker. If you loved Generations 1 and 2, then you're bound to enjoy what the game has to offer.

A very cool game by all accounts. My boys have spent hours playing it.

Great game they never did make a game for the loto region since the gameboy colour, Hours of fun great mechanics, Pokemon is a must have game for anyone who owns a ds

If you enjoyed the previous Pokémon games then this is definitely for you.

A classic visit back to the days of Silver but with graphics/gameplay elements matching and improving on Diamond/Pearl. The storyline, map, characters and town layout is altered slightly but everything is for the better.

I honestly don't know how The Pokémon Company keep raising their game, but they certainly have. The Pokéwalker is a fantastic component to have on the side, providing a quirky interaction with your team and an interesting way to obtain new pokémon/items.

All in all, if you're a fan, just stop hesitating and get it.

This is a great game if you have played the original or not it does not matter. If you haven't be prepared for an epic adventure into the unknown, however if you did play the original like I did you will NOT be disappointed with the new features and sprites it's an even better game now.

The poke-walker is an amazing accessory which i've used every day since i've got it=)

I can not think of a single downside to this game a very well deserved 5stars!=)

A real must have for all Pokemon fans, great graphics and great story line

Pokemon SoulSilver is perfect for all the Pokemon fans out there. It has hundreds of Pokemon to catch, lots of mini-games, and plenty of challenges along the way.

great to see this old game again, better than the first time it was out 10 years ago

This is a wonderful game bringing Johto and Kanto together. With new ways to find pokemon, like using headbutt on trees to finding them on the new pokewalker. Having more the the usual number of gym leaders makes the game last even longer, more challenges more fun. Love the new Safari zone , it's exciting getting a call from the Safari zone guy and hearing new Pokemon have arrived. A brilliant game. A must have for any Pokemon fan of any age.

In my opinion nothing bet silver and gold. They had two regions, rematching and a whole lot of Pokemon. You would spend hours lost in the Pokemon world. Well here's the remake and it lives up to the original.

Presentation: It has the same graphics as Pokemon Diamond and pearl, so nothing major their. But what is awesome is the fact that EVERY Pokemon in the game can follow you around and i think that is a really nice touch.

Game play: Same Pokemon style it has been for the last 10 years. Nothing has really changed. But this is not a bad thing. It's has this sense of familiarity which i really like. And lets face it its a remake of the most fun Pokemon games. They have added new things like poke-athlon and the poke-walker just to spice up the mix.

This is a must have for all Pokemon lovers.

this game is great. You can relive the Johto region and trvel to the Kanto region. It also has some aspects of Pokemon Crystal Version making it even better. You can even get one of the three starters of Johto without the three Hoenn region games. you can even get the rare pokemon from Hoenn like Kyogre, Groudon, the three starters and the dragon and flying pokemon that lives in the ozone layer.

When I first started playing this game I didn't want to stop playing it, because the improved graphics and bigger Pokedex. The pokewalker accessory is so fun because your pokemon levels up while you walk, you can also catch pokemon and find items.

This game is the remake of Pokemon Silver version.

In this game you can also explore the Kanto region and get the gym badges and you can find some pokemon from Sinnoh.

I think this is the best pokemon game for all fans.
