"Hello, Twitter! It's Barack. Really!" President Barack Obama sent that inaugural tweet from the @POTUS Twitter handle on May 18, 2015, six years into his two-term presidency. He tweeted from @POTUS during his final 20 months in office, commenting frequently about policy, his presidential travels, and current events. President Obama also congratulated Olympic athletes, celebrated the Chicago Cubs' 2016 World Series win, shared his Spotify playlists, and advised an aspiring politician to "have principles and issues you are passionate about . . . [and] worry more about doing something than being something." The @POTUS account will pass from president to president as terms end and terms begin. The National Archives and Records Administration will preserve Obama's tweets in electronic format under a new Twitter handle: @POTUS44. "POTUS tweets" preserves the 44th president's Twitter activity the old-fashioned way: on paper and in ink between the covers of a book.
