Excerpt from Proceedings of a Conference of Federal and State Representatives to Consider Plans for the Eradication of the Cattle Tick: Helt at Nashville, Tenn; December 5 and 6, 1906 Ten counties injthe northern part of the State and three in the southern part have been agreed upon as working ground for the next Season. Virginia. - The cooperation has been between the State board of control and its veterinarian and the county authorities on the one hand, and the Bureau force, averaging about nine inspectors and four agents, on the other. The working force of the State has been forty one local inspectors, whose employment has ranged from two weeks to three months each. The work was confined largely to eleven counties, though some inspections were made and some educational work was done in five other counties preliminary to next season's operations. The manner of the inspection has been to make a farm to-farm canvass of the live stock, usually with the local inspector, and, if premises were infected, to ascertain if they were quarantined, and if not, to report the fact to the local inspectors. Such places were thereafter revisited periodically to see if disinfection was being properly accomplished, and in most cases it was found that this was being done. The number of cattle.
