Description

Cephalosporins beta - lactums, broad-spectrum antibiotics. After penicillin, cephalosporins are the most important β-lactams inducing IgE-mediated reactions. Cephalosporins are antibiotics characterized by a cephem ring system in which a beta-lactam ring is fused to a dihydrothiazine ring. The microorganism used for this project is Acremonium chrysogenum, the fungus used for the production of Cephalosporin C. Acremonium is a genus of Fungi in the Hypocreaceae family; it was previously known as "Cephalosporium". Acremonium species are usually slow growing and are initially compact and moist. The present study on cephalosporins deals with the biochemical processes involved for the manufacture of cephalosporins along with the various distinctive properties of this β-lactam antibiotic. It summarizes the total details about cephalosporins at a glance. Considering the above facts, a research study was carried out on production of Cephalosporin from Acremonium chrysogenum ATCC 3568 (synonym: Cephalosporium acremonium W 532553).
