This new console will be great for first time PS3 buyers but pretty much a waste of time if you already own a PS3.
Looks OK at first glance, but…
The smaller size is great but the top loading disc drive negates any advantage of the consoles new smaller size. Forget placing it inside a TV cabinet. It still only has two USB ports and 802.11g wireless. The Wii U will come out at Christmas with 4 USB ports and 802.11n wireless. Power consumption remains at 200W so no advantage there. For the 12GB Flash storage model it is as yet unknown if it will ship with an HDD cradle or if this needs to be purchased separately from Sony.
Mighty Ape pricing is a bit over the top right now. I've seen it advertised cheaper (NZ$467.00 on 25/09/12)) in a bundle with two controllers or one controller and a game. Sorry Mighty Ape but I'm just being honest.
For me it is just a rehash of the existing PS3 and not worth the price as an upgrade. Buy one if you don't have a PS3 but if you do have a PS3 wait until the price drops more or save your cash for a PS4.
