As a big fan of the Psycho Pass anime series I was excited to learn that it was going to be made into a game, and I eagerly awaited its release. It was, however, nothing like I expected. Psycho-Pass brought to mind playing on my Commodore 64 back in the 80's when a ‘game’ was simply text written beneath a picture. You read the text then typed in what you wanted to do – use knife – or where you wanted to go – North, West, South, East. Psycho-Pass is different in three ways only: [1] you don't type, [2] the background picture is in colour and [3] when a character's picture appears their faces move. The two hours of Psycho-Pass I played consisted of looking at a number of different backgrounds and character's pictures with subtitles appearing beneath. Occasionally I was given options; where to go next, which person to speak to, the level of force to use and the like, and these choices moved you towards an outcome. What I didn't do was take control of a character, with all that that entails. Therefore, I would say that if you're looking for action, mystery and fun stay away from Psycho-Pass. But if you like to read a lot and gaze at static anime backgrounds then this is the game for you.
