Excerpt from Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, Vol. 10 Circulation of Aim - After the thermometers had been removed from the new screen a few observations were taken in both screens with a miniature Robinson anemometer lent by the Kew Committee, and these were compared with the indications of another Robinson anemometer on the top of the Glaisher stand. Little value Should, perhaps, be placed upon such com parisons, as they necessarily vary with every wind that blows, and moreover greatly depend upon the position occupied by the anemometer in the screen. Still it may be of interest to state that on the afternoon on which these observations were made, with a South-westerly wind moving outside at the average velocity of about 5 miles an hour, the mean rate of movement inside the two screens was about 1 mile an hour in the old screen and about 1} mile an hour in the new one.
