Notonly the power of appoint-u ing, but the power of removing any mem bers of the Supreme Council was taken away from the Court of Directors; fo that whatever might be the conduct of the Governor Gene ral and Council, they were fure to be conti nued in office, unlefs both the King's mini fiers and Court of Proprietors {houid agree with the Directors in the propriet'y of their difmifiion - a concurrence fcarce to be expee't ed in fluctuating bodies. It has indeed hap pened that two of the parties, but never that all three, have united in the expediency of fuch removal. This extraordinary fiate of go vernment probably encouraged difobedience: Even the opinion of this Houfe, faid Mr. Fox, has failed of its expected influence; the General Court having dared to uphold the Governor General in his fituation in direct 0p pofition to the vote of this Houfe, that it was Cxpedient for the Company to remove him by all lawful means. It is neceitary in this place to remark, that the vore here alluded to pafled when there were fcarce fufficient members to form a houfe; and that if the cafe had been otherwife, it would not have been incumbent on the India Company to have paid implicit.
