"Resident Evil moves up a notch"
5 stars"

Has to be the game of the year, it looks amazing, as already mentioned the difference between cutscene graphics and the actual game is barely noticeable, also features some interactive cutscenes, mainly dodging bosses, which is something I've seen used in Bourne Conspiracy and seems to work well. Instead of just watching a cutscene you've got to have your wits about you to get the combination of buttons right.

I've nearly completed the game and it took me ages, each level is well presented and some of the boss battles feel nearly impossible. Even with this i've still got heaps to unlock including weapons upgrades, files and more. I like that theres plenty of containers around to break to find ammo and other useful tools.

I agree not being able to move and shoot can be hard and i wish the knife could be left in hand when you run out of bullets as its slow to withdraw but I really can't fault this game at all.

Must have for resident evil fans, although it isnt as great as speancer mansion it's still definitely worth a go, plus co-op is completely engaging.

Fighting wesker hasn't been more exciting!

"Stuck in the 00's"
1 stars"

Ok, so I haven't played it the game all that much. I am sure the story is great once you get into it, and it becomes a little more engaging…

BUT, you have to get up to that part, if it even really exists.

First you have to get past the horrendous controls, which haven't changed since RE3 (at the time they were a breakthrough for RE, but have since dated), you have to get past the fact that there is NO REAL STORY in the first 30 minutes of the game. And if RE5 is like other RE games, that's about 20% of the entire game with no story…

I got this game for cheap and I still paid too much.

Unless you are really a RE fan, I would stay away. I am one to a certain extent because I really admire some of the ground breaking stuff that has come out with the games, but this one is well below their usual par.

"Resident Evil 5? Epic."
5 stars"

While surfing through the multiple reviews and comments on the internet I found one thing in common. Resident Evil 5 has received mainly negative views from those die-hard Resident Evil fans that have been following it from the beginning. And what do I say to them? Shut up. Resident Evil 5 is great.

I only got into Resident Evil when this game came out. Now those die-hard Resident Evil fans may accuse me of not knowing what I'm talking about but bear with me. I am predominantly a FPS player and I honestly saw no inclination to purchase this when it came out. Six months down the track, I'm sick of FPSs and decide to give third person shooters a go. So I pick up a copy of RE5. And I am absolutely blown away.

I hear multiple complaints from everywhere:

  • You can't aim while shooting
  • It's not scary
  • It's not a Resident Evil game if it's not scary

Let me clear some things up. Firstly, you can't aim while shooting. I, as an FPS player would probably be most affected by this all but I wasn't. Sure there's a slight learning curve, but I soon found it wasn't annoying and most of all it DIDN'T slow the pace of the game down. What it did was add a sense of tactility and the need to be accurate which is something that is unseen in a market dominated by run-and-gun FPS. Any person discouraged by this really needs to experience this game first hand.

Secondly, it's not scary. That's completely correct and it is completely wrong to classify it as a horror-survival game although that is what the name implies. What it is is an ACTION game and perhaps that was why I enjoyed it so much. Sure, people are mad at Capcom for apparently ruining a game that was designed to be a horror game but I am glad they didn't make it one. Capcom has truly outdone themselves with the creation of this fantastic ACTION game.

As for the rest of the game, gameplay is solid, graphics are intense and the level of detail it mind boggling. Fighting off infected zombies, massively upgradeable weapons and the occasional puzzle and boss fight make it a thoroughly enjoyable play through and I never found myself thinking it was tedious. Best of all, after you've played through the campaign singly or co-operatively (I played through five times) you've still got Mercenaries mode to play – A co-op survival style of gameplay which I am still playing today.

"Amazing game."
5 stars"

Ever wondered why a zombie outbreak required you to carry a crank around for the entire ordeal? Who knew cranks could be so universal.

Not this time round. There are no quest items per se in this game. The hardest it gets is collecting 4 keys for 1 door in 1 zone. However the combat is intense. Id compare it to trying to play quake 4 all the way through with just the railgun. And like all resident evil games, it has tonnes of replay value. With 4 difficulties and about 30 weapons you have a long unlocking career ahead of you. And ever bit of it is fun.

The multiplayer is very cool. The main story is 1 or 2 player, and that second player can be over the net. Id recommend the VS addon for $10 as well. Basically take that the 2 player (max) merc mode, and make it 4 players and online.

"The good, bad and the ugly."
5 stars"

Ok. I still own every RE tile from the begining and I hope to give a critical review for those who know this series.

The game feels like RE 4 with an upgrade – though I'm not sure it's that much better, just different. I clocked it in about 6 hours on the first run through and those familiar with the series will jump right in and the controls are pretty intuitive. The game play is average scary and has wandered away fom the dark gloomy hallways and puzzle based play that the original games were famous for. RE5 is primarily an action game with bosses that are hard but not impossible also they've managed to smooth out the beyond irritating button mashing required in episode 4.

The strong point is the unlockable extras. To access most of these you'll need to collect those little blue emblems. Now this is where the developers have lost the plot. Don't even try collecting the full set without the aid of a walkthrough (IGN is recommended). These are so well hidden as to be ridiculous. Moving and shooting are a no go and the menu system occurs in real time – but if you're prepared it's not an issue given the opportunty to juggle things with each new chapter or game start up.

This is a great game with so much replay value it's not funny, just don't expect any big scares. As for the new partner, you start wishing she'd get the hell out of the way and wind up wondering how you ever got on without her.

I do wonder where it will go next though. Horror should be brought back and, though I would not be without this game in my collection, it really needs to combine the original “feel” with the new look play.

Hands down this is the best game out by far, so go out and grab it and prepare to be impressed. If you're new to the series try RE4 if you want more atmosphere.

"Just Incredible"

Resident Evil 5 is everything I hoped it would be. Its gameplay retains the feel that made RE4 so popular. The graphics are great. The tension is there. Chris Redfield is back.

The first chapter is, however, dull and had me worried to begin with. Thankfully, Chapter Two onwards, is absolutely perfect. The weapons are great. The bosses are compelling. This is the best game I have played on PS3 so far.

I do agree with IGN, however that “the game feels more like an action game than a survival horror” but this is something I really like. It can be scary – the enemies are awesome – but it is really an action game. Plenty of blood and the great weapon upgrade system that made Resident Evil 4 great is back, too.

Overall, this is Resident Evil at its finest. While the game seemed a bit shorter than its predecessor, you will want to play it OVER AND OVER AGAIN! (And yes, the after-completion Missionaries Mode still Rocks :D)

"Just buy it"

I have played all of the resident evil series and this by far is one of the coolest ive ever played!!! the in game graphics and cut scenes are the same! im still in the early stages playing at this point and i have had the panic syndrome a few times already ( playing at night time, no lighting with the surround sound right up........best way to play ) there are some problems with the game like not being able to move and shoot at the same time and some of the camera angles need addressed. As i stated im only a small part through the game at this point, but im very impressed with it so far.

"Steven Segal meets 28 Weeks Later"
4 stars"

Resident Evil 4 is a landmark in modern video games. It popularised the over the shoulder third person genre, giving birth to Devil May Cry and influencing popular games like Gears of War and Dead Space. It moved the Resident Evil/Biohazard series forward and made survival horror fun all over again.

Now the long awaited and hyped sequel is finally here and does this game top it's famous predecessor? My answer is no and heres why. This game never set out to top the last one but rather to polish and improve it. Early trailers just like with Resident Evil 4 showed a much darker and scarier game. Some may be disappointed that this game isn't scary at all, save some atmospheric moments in a dark tunnel. Resident Evil 5 doesn't try to be a survival horror but instead more of a survival shooter and that's how they evolve the series.

The story continues directly from the main series but it may be disappointing to only see a few characters return. The storyline is simple enough that a newcomer will understand; it's got terrorists, infections, monsters, a badass villain and gorgeous babes. Think of it as a dumb action movie like 24 crossing 28 Weeks Later and a Steven Segal flick; nothing more nothing less so don't expect a game that tells you the meaning of life. The dialogue is rather silly and predictable, previous games did have cheesy one liners; so bad its good; but this game's dialogue is just pure stupid at times. Voice acting comes off with highs and lows but not too bad. You can really tell Capcom wanted Hollywood type cutscenes and that's exactly what you get, fast paced with action movie camera angles. There's some pretty epic matrix-like fight scenes which you occasionally have to participate in with quick time events, yes they have returned so make sure you don't take your hand off the controller during cutscenes. The music I have to say is pretty awesome and far better than previous entries. Graphics are pretty amazing although I found actual gameplay looking better than the cutscenes. Overall the presentation is solid but not too groundbreaking.

Gameplay might be an issue with some people, it's exactly the same as Resident Evil 4 with added functions and controls. This might push a few people away because you need to stop to shoot, reload and call your partner. This is a co-op game and I recommend playing with a mate but it doesn't necessarily make the game easier due to issues with changing weapons and equipment. The AI can vary, it's great at saving your ass in tight situations when you're nearing death or need to heal. Apart from that it just seems to waste ammo most of the time and you are restricted to 9 item spaces which is accessed in real time which I argue is a wrong move because it proves to be more troublesome than increase tension. The merchant we love from Resi4 is gone, instead a store menu will come up every time you start a game or restart after dying.

There was a time when people found this game racist, I don't agree with this but I do think they should've kept the village with native Africans only instead of adding middle easterns and a random blonde chick? I can't help but compare this game to Metal Gear Solid 4, there are moments that are taken straight from Metal Gear and it just felt unoriginal.

It's hard to truly like this game when it abandons the elements which made Resident Evil what it is but if you liked Resident Evil 4 or action shooters then definitely check this game out. Forget about the older games and survival horror you will find yourself playing Resident Evil 5 over and over again with continuous unlockables satisfying your thirst. So stop whining that it's different and enjoy this awesome action shooter for what it is.

"Good game, controlls suck."

So once you can get passed the fct that the controlls are hard to get used to this game is pretty good. I will still say that I enjoyed RE4 way beter but this one is still a must have for RE fans…

RE5 is a lot of fun (once you have got a hang of the controls). The graphics are amazing, really HD. This game can be really tense and tricky at some points, which are some reasons why it makes it such an awesome game. The only downside is not being able to shoot while moving, it is REALLY annoying!

Overall, I am really enjoying this game so far :)

"Worth a look"

This wasn't as good as Res 4, but definitely worth a look.

I bought the limited edition version for 360, but when I sold the 360 to buy a PS3, I knew I had to have it again. I'm still playing the game today, having just unlocked unlimited ammo rocket launcher, I intend to platinum it when I have time, such a good looking game even by today's standards. Will always love the RE series, and I look forward to the expansion pack, and hopefully there's a RE6 to come!
