5 stars"

Review by Chris on 9th September, 2011

Got the preorder and it is AMAZING!!!! Awesome story mode which is fully co-op (offline and online so the flatmates happy). Havn't even touched on the online aspect of it yet as the story is so addictive! A+++

"This actually feels like the Resistance!"
4 stars"

Review by Liam on 2nd October, 2011

The first two games in the series were good but never fully capitalize on the fact that you are mankind's last hope. In this game the world is all but lost and it felt great travelling through the war torn landscape with some old weapons and some new toys. Best of the series hands down

"Action packed, fast paced and great fun."

A great bookend to the trilogy. Capelli is no Hale, but the action is what drives this game.

"Best Resistance Yet!"
5 stars"

Review by Gareth on 22nd September, 2011

A lot of people were disappointed with the second game in the Resistance series. The first one was damned good- specially for a launch title- and the second one had a lot to live up to. Arguably the third game has even more to do to please fans. The good news is that it is the best yet. Excellent pacing, graphics, sound and Insomniac's typically brilliant weapons combined with a very good story make Resistance 3 an utter pleasure from start to finish. There are big moments and large bosses but it is the little things that linger in the memory and prod you to replay the single player campaign. Things like the Predator inspired invisible sniper level and the Widowmaker battle. Full on action is kept exciting by a lot of variety and this one deserves to do really, really well. Buy it.

"Very Good Game, 4.5/5"
4 stars"

Review by James on 22nd September, 2011

Resistance 3 is a very good game, with a compelling storyline (with splitscreen co-op worked in very well), as well as a great online mode.

That being said, it's still not quite up their with the CoD/Battlefield games in terms of the progression of FPS games on the PS3.

Regardless, still a great game, and a highly recommended purchase. Maybe just don't prioritise it over BF3/MW3.

"B-movie cliché or heavyweight FPS contender-"
3 stars"

Review by Cameron on 26th September, 2011

Things do not look good for humanity in alternate-history 1950s America. Despite your heroic efforts as Nathan Hale in Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, the vicious Chimeran hordes have overrun the nation, and Resistance 3's campaign once again paints a stirring picture of an all-but-complete invasion. You can play the whole affair cooperatively with another player online or off, which is a welcome addition, though it's a shame that the fantastic class-based co-op from Resistance 2 does not make a return… For all its ideas, Resistance 3 remains staunchly old-fashioned, rejecting many tricks of the current FPS trade…

America is lost. Four years after the epic conclusion of Resistance 2, dishonorably discharged Sentinel Joseph Capelli is in hiding from the invading Chimeran menace with a pocket of survivors, including his new wife and young son. But when Dr. Fyodor Malikov arrives with a desperate plan, he sets into motions the events of Resistance 3…

Resistance 3 is created by critically-acclaimed developer Insomniac Games exclusively for the PlayStation 3 system. In addition to an epic single-player campaign, Resistance 3 will offer two-player online or split-screen co-op through the single-player campaign, and a new, focused progression-based multiplayer experience.

  • Unique weapons sandbox – mix of Human and Alien technology.
  • Fully featured offline and online cooperative modes: Story and Multi-player.
  • Unpredictable Alien Encounters – from a long distance leaper to a hulking elite Chimera.
  • New “World War” Multiplayer – a class-based multiplayer Humans vs. Chimera.

Review by IGN
“An intense shooter experience that proves hard to resist.
Perhaps more than any other shooter series this console generation, Insomniac's PS3-exclusive Resistance games have best captured the desperation of war. The series has never been about jingoistic glorification of patriotism. It's never really been interested in pumping you up for a battle. This war has always been about the fate of the entire world and the brave men and women that will stop at nothing to try and save it. Most shooters overlook the human element of the story but Resistance puts these characters front and center. There is something deeply moving about a game where that kind of responsibility is in the main character's hands. This is particularly true of the latest entry in the series, Resistance 3Resistance 3 offers the same polished experience as the last two games in the series, only this time the action is more focused and tightly structured. Insomniac clearly wanted to make this game a more harrowing and personal experience, and by focusing its attention on a smaller, more personal story within the invasion, it has succeeded without question. While the big military operations have been replaced by more intimate battles, the sense of scale is as intimidating as ever. This is a surprisingly emotional cinematic roller-coaster of a campaign that never lets up.
Likewise, multiplayer in the game remains of the same high caliber as before. The number of players in its multiplayer modes may have been reduced, but fans should rest assured that the quality of the experience remains first-class. Resistance 3 is a must-buy for PS3 shooter fans.”

9.0 Presentation
The visual style is consistent from its menus, right through to the actual game. Layouts of Abilities and matchmaking options are clear and concise.
8.5 Graphics
While the game isn't quite the technical marvel that Killzone 3 is, it's still as pretty as this kind of bleak and grimy experience can be.
9.5 Sound
Stunning sound effects and music help create one hell of an unnerving atmosphere. Voice acting is also top-notch.
9.0 Gameplay
Resistance 3 feels and controls wonderfully. The campaign is always exciting and the game's weapons are more awesome than ever.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
A decent-sized campaign is complemented by a fun co-operative mode, and excellent multiplayer. Unlocks in multiplayer will keep players coming back for more.
