1/144 U-Boat Type IIB – Model Kit

After WWI, Germany was forced to turn over all of its submarines to the Allies and agree to not produce any more for its navy. In secret, Germany continued research and development on submarines. The Type II was one of the first submarines constructed by Germany after WWI and it served as a trainer for the Wolf Packs that ravaged Allied shipping in the Atlantic. The Type IIs had powerful engines, were very maneuverable and could dive within 25 seconds. The production time for one sub was only four months, and by the end of 1936 the German submarine forces had over 24 available. Referred to as the “canoe” due to the cramped conditions on board, some of the total of 50 submarines made were still in service in the Black Sea at the beginning of 1944. The German Navy training flotillas used this type until the war ended in 1945.
