Revell: 1/72 F-105G Thunderbird (Wild Weasel) – Model Kit
Detailed 1/48 scale model kit of the Republic F-105 Thunderchief, a
supersonic fighter-bomber used extensively by the United States Air Force for
bombing missions over North Vietnam during the early stages of the Vietnam War.
Introduced in 1958 and commonly called the “Thud” by its crews, the
F-105 was originally designed as a high-speed low-level bomber capable of
carrying a single nuclear bomb in its internal bomb bay. Fortunately, the
F-105's nuclear strike capability was never realized, but the “Thud” did
evolve into a effective strike-bomber during the Vietnam War. A two-seat Wild
Weasel F-105 variant was later developed for use in the specialized Suppression
of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) role against surface-to-air missile sites. Over
800 F-105s were produced and the type remained in service until the mid
1980's.
