Following on from 2017’s unanimously-acclaimed, ‘Trails & Tribulations,’ comes Martin Simpson’s 21st solo album of folk, blues and Americana.
Featuring special guests John Smith, Nancy Kerr, Andy Cutting, Dom Flemons, Ben Nicholls and Richard Hawley. Deluxe 2 CD package includes a bonus disc of instrumentals, ‘Seeded.’
Martin Simpson is not only of the most respected names in the fields of folk, blues and Americana but is also recognised as one of the world’s greatest acoustic, finger-style guitarists. Officially the most nominated musician in the history of the BBC Folk Awards, (with a remarkable 31 nods), Martin has worked with a dazzling range of artists from across the musical spectrum: Jackson Browne, June Tabor, Richard Thompson, Richard Hawley, Bonnie Raitt, Danny Thompson and Dom Flemons to name but a few. He’s also been central to seminal folk collaborations including The Full English, The Elizabethan Sessions and Simpson Cutting Kerr.
As with 2017’s universally-acclaimed ‘Trails & Tribulations,’ Martin’s new solo album, (his 21st!), ‘Rooted’ was produced by British folk music’s busiest man, Andy Bell. ‘Rooted’ features an array of stellar guest musicians, including the acclaimed singer-songwriter/guitarist, John Smith, award-winning singer/fiddler, Nancy Kerr (fiddle and viola), Andy Cutting (melodeon and diatonic accordion), Liz Hanks (cello), Ben Nicholls (Kings Of The South Seas). Richard Hawley and Dom Flemons contribute backing vocals and bones respectively to ‘Neo.’ As well as vocals, Martin himself plays banjola, 5-string banjo, 6-string fretless banjo, electric bass guitar and electric and resonator guitars.
