This highly anticipated follow-up to Rutherford County in World War II continues to illustrate the tremendous contributions of a brave community to the World War II effort. Rutherford County residents participated in almost every major campaign of the war, including Pearl Harbor, the air offensive in Europe, and D-Day, and those on the home front did all they could to support the troops. These patriotic photographs-many of which were collected by the authors during personal interviews with local veterans and other dedicated residents-memorialize this proud county's service and commitment to the war effort.
Author Biography:
Rutherford County natives Anita Price Davis and James M. Walker are honored to present Rutherford County in World War II, Volume II. An alumnus of Appalachian State and Duke Universities, Davis holds her doctorate and is The Charles A. Dana Professor of Education at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She previously published Chimney Rock and Rutherford County with Barry Hambright and Rutherford County in World War II with James M. Walker. Walker is both a contract and freelance photographer and a school volunteer, recently retired after 31 years as an educator in the Rutherford County public schools.
