Squirrels are small rodents with bushy tails who spend their lives up in the
trees. There they find their food which is mostly vegetables.
Squirrels live on their own or with others in their nest, called a drey, and
spend most of the day finding food. Except whilst a morning napping, squirrels
look for leaves, grass, twigs and other objects necessary to build their nests
as well as nuts and seeds to eat. Because they are keen-eyed and have sensitive
whiskers, these rodents are wary of predators like cats. Since squirrels build
up lots of different winter stock lairs, they do forget some of the places
afterwards. Their food varies according to season. Amongst others, they feed on
insects and caterpillars.
