Myer is a household name Australia-wide but little is known about Sidney Myer, the man behind this retail empire. He migrated to Australia in 1899, largely to escape the persecution he faced as a Jew in Russia. He spent his first years in Australia as a pedlar in country Victoria, before establishing the first Myer store.
