Description

The author chronicles his wartime exploits and the men who served with him aboard the submarine "Jack". He recalls the eight patrols undertaken by "Jack" between 1943 and 1945. He describes in detail undersea and surface battles in which a total of 15 Japanese vessels were sunk; going in under enemy fire to successfully recover downed fighter pilots; and the moment in September 1945 when Calvert and three of his shipmates paid an unofficial call on the city of Tokyo itself.
