Description

The adoption of cloud and IoT technologies in both the industrial and academic communities has enabled the discovery of numerous applications and ignited countless new research opportunities. With numerous professional markets benefiting from these advancements, it is easy to forget the non-technical issues that accompany technologies like these. Despite the advantages that these systems bring, significant ethical questions and regulatory issues have become prominent areas of discussion. Social, Legal, and Ethical Implications of IoT, Cloud, and Edge Computing Technologies is a pivotal reference source that provides vital research on the non-technical repercussions of IoT technology adoption. While highlighting topics such as smart cities, environmental monitoring, and data privacy, this publication explores the regulatory and ethical risks that stem from computing technologies. This book is ideally designed for researchers, engineers, practitioners, students, academicians, developers, policymakers, scientists, and educators seeking current research on the sociological impact of cloud and IoT technologies.

Author Biography:

Gianluca Cornetta obtained his MSc Degree from Politecnico di Torino (Italy) in 1995 and his PhD from Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (Spain) in 2001, both in Electronic Engineering. In 2003 he joined Universidad CEU-San Pablo in Madrid (Spain), where he is presently an Associate Professor. Prior to joining Universidad CEU-San Pablo, he was a Lecturer in the Departement of Electronic Engineering of Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (Spain), a Digital Designer at Infineon Technologies Gmbh (Germany), and an ICT Consultant at Tecsidel SA (Spain) in the field of real-time embedded systems. In 2004 he founded the Department of Electronic System Engineering and Telecommunications, which he chaired until February 2008. He is also a research fellow at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and an invited Professor at the Institut Superieur d'Electronique de Paris (ISEP) where he has taught Wireless System Design in the Advances in Communication Environment (ACE) Master until 2018. His current research interests include RF circuit design for wireless sensor networks, digital communication circuits and distributed real-time embedded systems covering the whole IoT stack from sensor to cloud. Abdellah Touhafi is professor at the Engineering Sciences Faculty of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. As member of the Engineering technologies department, he is responsible for the major courses related to electronics design, embedded computing and reconfigurable computing. His research interests are smart and industrial electronics, reconfigurable computing systems, multi-sensorial systems and cloud computing. Those topics are deployed within two emerging applications that are advanced environmental monitoring systems and digital education. He is serving as an editor for the Journal of sensors and is chairing several conferences related to smart cities, cloud computing and industrial electronics. His work has been published in more than 130 scientific publications. Gabriel-Miro Muntean is an Associated Professor with the School of Electronic Engineering, Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland, where he obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2003 for research on quality-oriented adaptive multimedia streaming over wired networks. He was awarded the B.Eng. and M.Sc. degrees in Software Engineering from the Computer Science Department, "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, Romania in 1996 and 1997 respectively. Dr. Muntean is co-director of the DCU Performance Engineering Laboratory and Investigator with Insight and Lero National Research Centres. His research interests include quality-oriented and performance-related issues of adaptive multimedia delivery, performance of wired and wireless communications, energy-aware networking and personalised technology-enhanced learning. Dr. Muntean has published over 350 papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, has authored 4 books and 19 book chapters and has edited 6 other books, which have attracted over 6000 citations (H-index=44). Dr. Muntean has supervised successfully 22 PhD students and 10 postdoctoral researchers. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting, Multimedia Communications Area Editor for IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials and reviewer for other important international journals, conferences, and funding agencies.
