Well I watched this and thought what more could they do- they have really bulked out Han's background and explains why he is the way he is without making it sappy. Highly Recommend viewing before Rouge One which comes in the story line after Vader's trilogy and before a new hope.

To be fair, Solo isn't Rogue One. That's a tough act to follow for the second stand alone Star Wars film. But it also isn't The Last Jedi, and I get a feeling that one of the reasons Solo became the second worst performing Star Wars film at the booking office (beating only the deservedly panned Clone Wars animated film) was a fan backlash against TLJ. That and the fact that apparently there's a thing called fan fatigue and five months between Star Wars films was not enough for people to get hyped up again. (I call BS on that, I could easily handle a new Star Wars movie every six-eight weeks for the next 40 or 50 years I reckon, but that's what they're saying – whoever ‘they’ are.) So put aside what the naysayers say. (Apparently a naysayer isn't just a horse. Say it to yourself. Yes, you're allowed to smile.) This is a great film. Sure, the start drags a bit but you eventually get over that. Young Han is not Original Han, although there are a couple of moments where you can almost see him in there. But he's still a pretty good Han nonetheless, and Young Lando may well have out-Landoed Original Lando with a stellar performance. The first ‘woke’ bot in the Star Wars universe, Lando's non-human semi-love interest L3–37, was the worst part of the film for me but seeing Chewie and Han in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon for the first time still brings a lump to my throat on the seventh viewing (mind you, Han's death in TFA is still bringing tears after more than ten viewings so maybe I'm just soppy). This is a great addition to the Star Wars universe and if you call yourself a fan, you owe it to yourself to watch it. It's not Rogue One, it's not Empire Strikes Back, but it is almost Star Wars: the Western and it's worth seeing.

"Underrated gem"

I dont understand how people hate this movie. It's honestly one of the best movies in the Star Wars Anthology series detailing the early adventures of Han Solo and Chewbaca. The actor who plays Han does a great job mimicking Harrison Ford's mannerisms as Han while also doing his own take on the character Honestly a fun filled space adventure and roller coster that doesnt focus on the ongoing battle between the Light and Darkside or the Force in general. A completely different and fresh story

And yet it manages to fill in some of the back story questions quite well. If you're a die hard Star Wars fan, you'll possibly find something to pick at, but for the average Star wars fan, it's a thoroughly entertaining movie.

Great movie with a awesome group of actors, makes it wide open for more movies to follow this story.

"Forget the nay sayers, just as good as all the rest of the Star"

Other than watching at night as some of the early scenes are quite dark and hard to see in daylight viewing. It is as good as Rogue One and better than some of the others.
