Not as an eagle fettered and caged And left to languish and die, While the piteous gleam of a heavenward Fades from its noble eye, But bearing enclosed in its deep recess A title affixed with power TO something beyond its highest thought, To an unencircled dower, The spirit Oi man can feast on hope, Can spread its airy wing And darting above the storm-tossed cloud, In its self-poised grandeur sing: Something beyond!
