This game merges elements of roleplaying games with elements of real-time strategy, and does a good job of creating game with much to offer.

You will control an Avatar who will grow in level and ability dependant on how you allocate the exp. rewards. You can create a specialist in arms or magic or a generalist in both.

Buildings are obtained by way of runes, once gained they are always with you. These cannot be used until activated by a specific monument. Once actived you will need to meet the resource requirements. The great thing I liked about building was you could place them anywhere, which is great for blocking or creating choke points with defensive structures.

The graphics are great if you have a decent machine to run it and though the voice acting leaves a lot to be desired it does the job… still its not the reason your buying this game ;-)

If you like RTS and/or RPG games then Spellforce: Order of Dawn has something for you to enjoy.

"Very addictive."
5 stars"

This starts off as a fairly standard 3rd person RPG, but gains realtime strategy elements as the game progesses, with advancement through a series of maps, on each of which there are enemies to destroy and role-playing elements to explore, different maps focus on different elements and you will need to visit some maps several times to complete the game.

Very addictive despite the poor voice acting and the linear-ish plotline, you will find that it takes a while to get into, and that it then takes all of your free time until it's complete.

There are multi-player aspects, although it really is the single player aspects that the game is strong in.

In their immeasurable greed and constant thirst for power, the thirteen most powerful Mages of all time doomed the land, hurling it into an endless spiral of chaos and despair. Entire countries were wiped out in the blink of an eye when the devastating power of the Elements was unleashed – Elements summoned by dark rituals. Continents shattered like glass, the pieces strewn about like leaves in the wind. Huge armies, bound by the the power of ancient runes, brought war and destruction to the lands that survived the initial onslaught. All that was left were a few islands, connected by magic portals.
