If you have Spirit Island, this is a must-buy. Next mechanics and event cards add small about of randomness that make the game more interesting and thematic.
Relatively quick for a euro-style engine-building board game. Simple to play yet as complex as you'd like to make it with add-ons. Good to play as a single-player if you can't find someone else to participate. Good also with 2 or 3 people. 4 players can slow play a fraction. 70+ games playing this and still going strong with plenty of interest left in the tank
As well as two more spirits, adds a bunch of mechanics to spice up a game of Spirit Island to add to the richness of the experience and take it a step away from being a completely solvable puzzle. Events and more Island health, scenario cards add a ton of variability and keep things from getting stale.
The Branch & Claw Expansion brings a fantastic variety of new play content to the fight for Spirit Island:
Four completely new ways to fight the Invaders: Beasts, Disease, and Wilds
are semi-permanent changes to chosen lands, and Strife can be inflicted upon
specific Invader pieces;
Two new Spirits to add to your lineup: Sharp Fangs Behind the Leaves and Keeper
of the Forbidden Wilds;
A new Adversary to fight against: the French Plantation colony;
Another 50+ distinct Major and Minor Power Cards, doing things no Powers have
done before;
Another 15 Fear Cards and 7 Blight cards for added game-to-game variety;
Four more optional Scenarios offering new play experiences;
…and a deck of Event Cards which bring the island to life, with Invaders,
Dahan, and beasts acting on their own. This adds a judicious spice of
uncertainty for experienced players as well as creating both opportunities and
hard choices for the Spirits!
