For when God was ple'as'd to make Man, we find that he t'husexprefs'd himfelf 5 Gen. I. I. Let u; make in' our Image, after our li/eenefi, and let then? Have dominion over the ffl) of the fea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattel, and oft/er all the earth, and over every creeping thine that creepeth upon the face of the earth. Man t e the Image of God, not upon the account of his Body, but his Spirit, for God is a Spirit, not a Body. There, as St. Bafil faith, is the Image of God, where there is that which commands the tell of the Creatures. But Man hath Command over the Beafis not by Virtue of the' Members of his Body, which in refpeet of firength are inferiour to thofe of Brutes; but by virtue of his Mind endued with Reafon' and Free-will. For Man pre fides not over the Beafis by virtue of what he hath in common with them but by that which dillinguilheth him from them, and confiitutes him the Image of God.
