"A lot of action, alot of fun"

Well, there are times you wish you could change the way you rate games on a site like this cause all it takes is one to top them all. This game is exactly that.

We reviewed Pillars of the Earth some time ago and it was, and still is, a very nice game. Stone Age takes some of the mechanics of PoE and moves it a bit further.

Like PoE, this game involves gathering basic resources like stone, gold, wood, and clay. And the normal goal of gaining game points.

The added fun is trying to build huts, increase productivity and feeding these poor loin clothed souls. Game turns can move pretty quickly and there is a lot of motion on the board. Lots of nifty wooden pieces, beautifully cut tokens and parts and a spectacular and large game board.

This is a very physical game. Lots of pieces being placed, moved, and accounted for. Speed games are even more hilarious. Luck does play a fairly large part but can be accounted for.

As for the kids, our 8 year old plays pretty well but the mechanics are so basic, the 5 year old joins in from time to time when he knows we are not “Out for the kill”.

Played this at a friends house and decided we needed to get it. Every time we play it my husband says it was worth every cent we payed for it. Not often two players can play a game.

"A beautiful game."

A beautifully presented game that is relatively simple to learn. Couple of drawbacks however – always seem to run out of gold pieces and the dice rolling does take a while. We have learnt to use dice simulators on our phones to help speed up this process. A great family game.

"It Still Stacks Up!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game is over 10 years old now, so does it still stack up against more modern games- The answer is simply yes! Worker placement games occupy about 60% of all genre so there's obviously a lot of competition so why does this game still deserve to be part of your collection- Several reasons, 1. The game mechanics, while similar to other games like Pillars of the Earth and Village for example, offer enough options to make it unique. 2. It's easy to learn but hard to master making it an ideal choice for gamers starting out. 3. The components are solid and the artwork is fantastic. 4. Game time is relatively short (2 players can get a result within 60 minutes). 5. It's totally fun. At the current price point compared to other similar games you'd be silly not to grab a copy.

"Setting the standard for worker-placement games"

I often describe this game as a “Board game version of Age of Empires” as the process of assigning workers, gathering resources and building a village is very familiar to players of the video game.

The rules of Stone Age are relatively intuitive the learn, but offers a whole lot of depth and multiple paths to victory. This is a game that is quick to learn but tricky to master and each game will require you to adapt your strategy to how the choices other players are making.

I strongly recommend Stone Age, but be aware that you will want to set aside a couple of hours for this game (especially if your have new players).

Amazingly fast delivery, just arrived the day my daughter invited a friend for sleepover. All 4 had great time together. This is a high quality boardgame. If you like Settlers of Catan, you should have this one as well.
