The Sword Art Online Light Novels have a slightly different feel to them than their Manga and Anime counterparts. I enjoy reading the precise details that have carefully been translated from the original Japanese texts and it’s phenomenal. The descriptions, dialogue and depictions of the action sequences are truly an enthralling read. I do reccomend at least knowing the plot of the anime as well, as this novel is actually set mainly in the endgame story with the whole “no log out button, if you die in the game, you die in real life” sequence only spanning the first few chapters. The novel is written from the perspective of Kirito and introduces characters as if he already knows them which might be a little jarring for anyone who is going into the franchise blind. Ultimately, the story is very captivating and adds depth where the other depictions lack, if I were to decide, I would say the Light Novels are the best depiction of the Sword Art Online franchise.
