Description

An exciting boxed set collection of must-have TED Books for any science reader--from medical professionals to armchair Internet doctors to sci-fi enthusiasts--an engaging and fresh look at the inner and outer world around us, including Follow Your Gut, How We'll Live On Mars, and The Laws of Medicine. Allergies, obesity, acne: these are just a few of the conditions that may be caused--and someday cured--by the microscopic life inside us. How does this groundbreaking science influence your health, mood, and more? In Follow Your Gut pioneering scientist Rob Knight pairs with award-winning science journalist Brendan Buhler to explain why these new findings matter to everyone. In How We'll Live on Mars award-winning journalist Stephen Petranek considers what sounds like science fiction as fact: within twenty years, humans will live on Mars. In fact, we'll need to. In this sweeping, provocative book that mixes business, science, and human reporting, Petranek makes the case that living on Mars is an essential back-up plan for humanity, and he explains in fascinating detail just how it will happen. The Laws of Medicine is essential, required reading for doctors and patients alike: Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Emperor of Maladies and one of the world's premiere cancer researchers, Siddhartha Mukherjee reveals an urgent philosophy on the little-known principles that govern medicine--and how understanding these principles can empower us all.
