"A unique movie"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

You would be hard pressed to find another movie like this one. The use of unknown actors, particularly the lead actor who was basically playing his life story, added to the appeal of this movie. The whiskey connection was also an interesting bonus. In places I had a little difficulty with the regional Scottish accent even though I had a Scottish father. But overall it was a very enjoyable movie.

"Too funny"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

Great for fans of the director, fans of elite whiskey or fans of Scottish humour.

"Fantastic"
5 stars"

Lovely, lovely movie. Great acting and fantastic music .

A movie I would be happy to watch more than once.

Description

The Angels' Share

A bittersweet comedy about a Glasgow boy locked in a family feud who just wants a way out.

When Robbie sneaks into the maternity hospital to visit his young girlfriend Leonie and hold his newborn son Luke for the first time, he is overwhelmed. He swears that Luke will not lead the same stricken life he has led. On community service Robbie meets Rhino, Albert and Mo
for whom, like him, work is little more than a distant dream. Little did Robbie imagine that turning to drink might change their lives – not cheap fortified wine, but the best malt whiskies in the world.

Critic Reviews:

  • " Modest in scale, expansive in emotions, this movie is a rarity: a contemporary tragicomedy. " – Michael Sragow
  • " Part social realism, part comedy caper, and so good-natured, warm and affectionate it's rather a joy, even though it doesn't exactly add up. " – Deborah Ross
  • " The Angels' Share takes Loach's trademark edge and softens it a wee bit " – Richard Propes
