"I laughed myself silly"
4 stars"

The Bard's Tale is humour from opening to closing credits.

The Bard's Tale is not a game with a few slap-stick stunts thrown in for effect, this is a grown-up, subtle, sarcastic wit and side-slapping humour that takes the mickey out of games in general and rpgs in particular. The interraction between the Narrator and the Bard is a comedy in itself, while the Bard's sarcastic interaction with others will have you laughing out loud and you'll be humming the tunes for days afterwards because you dare not sing the words.

My only complaints about The Bard's Tale are minor and personal; it's a top-down view, my least favourite because you don't see the detail of the characters or the scenery – you don't see the whites of the enemys' eyes and you miss the grass waving in the breeze. My other ‘grump’ is that the camera rotation cannot be altered. As I said these are entirely personal complaints and in the grand scheme of things mean absolutely nothing.

When The Bard's Tale is released in New Zealand make sure it's at the top of your ‘Must Buy’ list. This's one of the best games I've played this year and it's definately the funniest I have ever played.
