Description

John/Jean Talon Lesperance (1838-1891) who also wrote under the pseudonyms Arthur Faverel and Laclede, was a journalist and novelist. He worked as a journalist for the Canadian Illustrated News. Afflicted throughout his life by mental disease, he repeatedly reinvented his history, telling stories of his Civil War experience. By 1870 Lesperance was writing poetry and fiction. In 1882 he helped in finding the Royal Society of Canada and after 1888 he was an editor for Dominion Illustrated News. His works include: One Hundred Years Ago (1876), The Bastonnais: Tale of the American Invasion of Canada in 1775-76 (1877) and Tuque Bleue: A Christmas Snowshoe Sketch (1882).
