For Abby, it's a dream come true. She's finally going to have her very own horse: Griffin, a beautiful bay. Abby can't wait to ride, brush, and feed him, and doesn't understand how her best friend, Devon, could be afraid of such a wonderful horse. She certainly could not have guessed that Devon would get so mad at her for saying so. Yet when Griffin arrives, he does seem awfully big and hard to handle. Ronald Himler has illustrated many books for children, including "A Picture Book of Lewis and Clark" by David Adler, and "The Blizzard" by Betty Ren Wright. "School Library Journal" called his art "evocative" and pinpoints a "nostalgic appeal" that Himler "capture[s] so perfectly in...pictures." He lives in Arizona. Alice DeLaCroix is the author of a middle grade novel for children, Mattie's Whisper, also The Hero of Third Grade, which Booklist found "funny" and "ingenious." She lives in Penfield, New York.
