Forced from her comfortable life when she is unable to give her husband Amos a child, Mary of Magdala becomes the lover of the Roman officer Silvano. Mary is sent to spy upon John the Baptist, but Jobns powerful message of the coming Messiah overwhelms Mary and leaves her unable to betray his goodness. Silvano discovers that Mary has lied to him and gives her away to his soldiers to rape. Mary attempts to drown herself but is saved by Jesus.
