Description

Buck, a domesticated St. Bernard-Scotch Collie, is stolen from his home on a ranch and sold as an Alaskan sled dog. Forced to fight for domination with huskies, Buck begins to return to his primal instincts. The conflict between the dogs turns deadly as Buck fights the previous leader of the pack for domination, and the dog is killed by the rest of the pack. Buck hardens over the period of the novel, his primal instincts slowly begin to reign supreme over him. When a kinder master takes Buck in, he begins to soften, but his inner instincts are still as canine as ever, and when the wild calls, he must decide whether to answer or to stay back in the world of man.
