Description

Each major life transition gives us a chance, Bankson proposes, "to name what we are here for." Using mythical archetypes, biblical and personal stories, she presents a revealing six-stage soulwork cycle to help us find our calling. A valuable resource for people seeking to nurture their spiritual growth, individually, in groups, or with a spiritual director. Includes a format for a soulwork retreat.

Marjory Bankson has been the keynoter for national meetings of Presbyterians, Episcopalians, American Baptists, United Methodists, and Church of the Brethren, and has led numerous local and regional retreats. She served as President of Faith at Work for ten years, has taught in the VTS Continuing Education Program, and has written for Living Pulpit, Response (UMC), and The Seminary Journal, as well as Faith@Work magazine. A graduate of Harvard (1961) with a Masters from the University of Alaska and an honorary doctorate from Virginia Theological Seminary, she taught high school history and English before serving as the first women's counselor at Dartmouth College in l969-70. Between l970 and l980, Marjory worked as a professional potter and explored classical spiritual disciplines. When the Banksons moved to Washington, D.C. in l976, she became a member of Church of the Saviour, an ecumenical church with a strong commitment to inner spiritual growth and outward ministry by every member. Now divided into nine congregations, each with a particular mission, Marjory belongs to the Seekers Church which is centered on advocacy for children.
