An old man, fleeing an ambush by hill bandits, seeks shelter from a winter storm. But this old man is very far from ordinary. Not only does he look and move like a man less than half his age, he is a king- a very unusual king. As he sits out the winter in his little place of refuge, the Old King thinks back on the strange and wonderful events that led him from his beginnings as a simple young soldier in a small city on the outskirts of nowhere to becoming a rich and respected king. All he had wanted to do was talk to his girlfriend and find out why she had left so suddenly. Finding her introduced Athan to a whole set of fascinating people-some who loved him and some who tried to kill him. His subsequent journey includes intrigue, murder, mystery, battles, love, and a wild set of adventures. It was a time and place of action, romance and, perhaps, a little magic. Athan and his companions are at the center of every adventure.
