Erik has been exiled from his home village; his powers revealed themselves as he created a supernatural storm which drove off the Romans but resulted in him having to flee for his life from the superstitious villagers. Unknown to him, his mother was mistakenly killed by his adoptive father in the same clearing in the forest where she had been saved from the great wolf. Erik is now on his way to his sister Aris on horseback heading north-east towards the great mountains where he will realise his true destiny.
