Description

Over the years, political scientists have produced many assessments of the left and several analyses of the far right. But there have been fewer studies of the mainstream European center right political parties, even though these parties are more often than not the government supported ones. This volume is intended to fill this gap by examining the moderate to right parties in nine Western European countries. Each chapter is authored by a leading expert on the party politics in that given country, and provides assessments of the structures, electoral bases, programmes and political strategies of the party in question. Main themes include the impact of the neo-liberal agenda on the center right, the European Union and the extent to which these parties or their left wing rivals can make a difference in the policy processes of their countries.
