The true taste of country cooking is captured in this heartwarming collection of home-cooked dishes, bringing the fresh ingredients and seasonal delights of a farmhouse kitchen into your home. There are dishes for every kind of meal and occasion, from hearty soups and sustaining casseroles, to delicious country desserts and puddings. A section on baking will bring rustic breads, muffins, tea-breads and cookies to the table, and wonderful aromas to your kitchen. Nutritional breakdowns are also provided throughout to help plan your meals. More than 400 recipes present a wonderful range of simple and tasty dishes that have stood the test of time, from soups and pates to stews, casseroles, roasts, and pies, and from tarts and cobblers to crumbles, puddings, cakes, breads, jams and jellies. Try dishes such as Country Vegetable Soup, Gamekeeper s Terrine, Rustic Meat Loaf, Mustard Thatch Lamb Pie, and Toad-in-the-Hole; and irresistible home bakes such as Winter Fruit Crumble and Pumpkin Pie, together with a wealth of cookies, tray bakes, layer cakes, tea-breads and scones. The pantry chapter reveals farmhouse recipes for packing the larder with pickles, chutneys, and preserves.
