A four-piece outfit based in Croydon, Surrey, England, during the latter part of the 70s, Major Surgery comprised Don Weller (b. 19 December 1940 Croydon, Surrey, England), Tony Marsh (drums), Bruce Collcutt (bass guitar) and Jimmy Roche (guitar). Roche had a blues background, having been a brief member of an early Colosseum line-up; he subsequently joined East Of Eden, where he played with Weller. This pair also played together in Boris before forming Major Surgery. Thus, Major Surgery drew on the blues, rock, and avant garde music, reconstituting them as a muscular blend of intellectual electric jazz.
