Soundtrack To Highly Anticipated Series By Baz Luhrmann, Also Featuring Zayn, Christina Aguilera, Nile Rodgers, Janelle Monáe, Grace And More!
“This album is an introduction to the many musical genres and styles that can be heard in ‘The Get Down,’ which is really a story of New York in the late 70's, an incredibly fertile time of creativity amid chaos,” says Luhrmann. “While our production is a musical that embodies many classic hits, we also use contemporary sounds and techniques connecting the dots between then and now. My great privilege is to have associated with such a diverse musical community.” He continues, “There will also be a deluxe version and while it carries many of the tracks from the original soundtrack, it also includes many of the cast performances and a sampling of the crucial classics that we've called upon in the making of the production.”
From Baz Luhrmann and a team of collaborators including four-time Oscar winner and fellow executive producer Catherine Martin, legendary MC and executive producer Nas, associate producer Grandmaster Flash, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, co-creator and executive producer Stephen Adly Guirgis; and expert collaborators, including hip-hop historian and supervising producer Nelson George and Rahiem from the Furious Five, ‘The Get Down’ is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to a new art form. Set in New York in 1977, this music-driven drama series chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the last days of disco – told through the lives, music, art and dance of the South Bronx kids who would change the world forever.
The cast of The Get Down includes Justice Smith (“Ezekiel ‘Books’ Figuero”), Shameik Moore (“Shaolin Fantastic”), Herizen Guardiola (“Mylene Cruz”), Skylan Brooks (“Ra Ra Kipling”), Tremaine Brown Jr. (“Boo Boo Kiping”), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Cadillac”) and Jimmy Smits (“Francisco ‘Papa Fuerte’ Cruz”); and guest stars Jaden Smith (“Dizzee Kipling”), Mamoudou Athie (“Grandmaster Flash”), and Giancarlo Esposito (“Ramon Cruz”).
‘The Get Down’ is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. The series is executive produced by Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin, Paul Watters, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Thomas Kelly, and Nas. Seth Zvi Rosenfeld and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas are co-executive producers
