Author Biography

Brought up on a diet of Everlasting Gobstoppers and Snozzcumbers, Stella Caldwellhas long admired the incredible imagination and writing of Roald Dahl. She studied English Literature at the University of Edinburgh and worked in book publishing as an editor for several years. She is the author of many other books for children including Dragonworld, Fairy World, Gods, Heroes and Monsters and Explore 360: The Tomb of Tutankhamun. Illustrated by Sir Quentin Blake, the man most famously known for all of Roald Dahl's iconic illustrations. Born in London in 1932, he has been drawing for as long as he can remember and was a teacher for over twenty years at the Royal College of Art. He has collaborated with several other writers and has also illustrated classic books, including A Christmas Carol and created much-loved characters of his own, including Mister Magnolia and Mrs Armitage. His books have won numerous prizes and awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration in 2002, the highest international recognition given to creators of children's books.
