My wife and I fell into the deep and calming pond of the Great Interior Design Challenge – a surprisingly good TV show based on a bunch of rookie designers trying to get good.
This book follows the first season's designers, but it's quite a bit more in-depth than I expected. It covers content not included in the show, as well as the show's content and a deeper dive into that.
It's got less emphasis on the gameshow nature and more on how to use color and lighting, positioning, and so on – explaining much of the “why-” behind choices within the show. The useful part is the knowledge is easy to weaponise against your own home in the book's format.
If you enjoyed the show and want to know the hows of … How it's done, this is for you. I'd say it might also be useful for the casual amateur designer, but you will probably miss some of the contestant-based nuance. It's a great coffee table book as well as a teaching aid and reference.
