Poor writing style and superficial content. Though Mr. James's sentiments seem genuine, he lacks the ability to convey any contribution, clarity, modern contextualization, or literary or philosophical improvisation or elaboration on the genius of Bronowski. The first two chapters read like a high school essay written on the fly, listing biographical information that seems merely a paraphrase of a single general source like Wiki. The third chapter drops names of great philosophers and poets without a deep understanding of the ideas they represent; as such, we get tangled in a fugue of promising ideas rather than experience the harmony of brilliance. In his Introduction, Mr. James states that he did not touch the wall of the death Block at Auschwitz because it “seemed too much of an intrusion – a piece of arrogance or impudence.” Instead, he wrote this book, as a piece of arrogance and impudence.
