Description

'Cure for Cancer' follows Harry Greene - former journalist, businessman and now lecturer - to Romania, and charts his blossoming romance with Mariana, the beautiful Romany researching the elusive cure for the disease which is already afflicting her. Continuing her studies in America, where Mariana rebuffs the advances of Harry's own son, the couple return to Romania and marriage, a rather unorthodox relationship with Harry's mother-in-law, Mari, and their collaborative foundation of a clinic working toward cancer relief using a combination of traditional gypsy lore and conventional medicine. The vicissitudes of Mariana's health and research and the course of the couple's love are all mirrored stylistically in a work composed of a kaleidoscope of narrative, dramatized vignettes, letters and film script, on a canvas as broad and cosmopolitan as Hahn's fellow traveler and literary precursor, Lawrence Durrell. 'Cure for Cancer' is Volume Two of 'The Harry Sextet'.
