Joseph, the teller of this extraordinary story, is born into modest circumstances and spends his life as a working man, mainly as a welder. But this is not all there is to Joseph; for Joseph, from his earliest years serving as a soldier in what was then Palestine, has seen and heard things that have been vouchsafed to very few. He has heard and felt the beating of great wings; he has seen the blazing light at the end of the rainbow; and he has heard deep within his spirit, the voice of the Lord, sending Joseph about His business. Mixed with the full story of an ordinary life, is the parallel story of a man of visions and vision; attractive to and attracted by the opposite sex, and, sometimes, beset by difficulties and betrayals, Joseph nonetheless remains steadfast in his mission to the last.
