Many new seedlings have been produced, most of which will be found enumerated in our Pomological Gossip for the year. Some of these possess great merit, and it appears now that they will be likely to take the place of the old varieties which have been so long the favorites of cultivators. This will be a slow process, because we have much to learn in regard to all the characteristics of these new sorts, and their adaptation to ordinary treatment. There is certainly no rea son why new sorts, containing the combination of qualities so desirable, should not be produced; and though we would ad vise caution in their introduction, we would, on the contrary, give them a full and fair trial, and, if they stand the ordeal, reject such of the old sorts as are surpassed by the new old prejudices should not be allowed to warp our judgment, and prevent us from availing ourselves of the most valuable grapes.
