Description

They were both young. They both had grown-up problems. When it seems impossible, can love prevail?5 Stars from Readers' Favorite. Inspired by a true story.Born into a Native-Indian family, Sam grows up in a community of racists. When their neighbour, Mr. Seamington, finds unfounded fault in Sam, the boy learns the shocking truth about what lengths people will go to out of prejudice. With a keen interest in karate, Sam joins a dojo with his older brothers, and the discipline soon becomes a love of his. Some of his peers can't accept Sam's unmistakable prowess, and the boy finds himself in a life-altering situation. Becky, among many females, finds Sam exotic with his caramel skin and long, ebony hair, unbeknownst to him. She is desperate for Sam to like her. After winning him over in a deplorable manner, they are both suddenly inserted into a new life; one that they would never have dreamed they would be living. When tragic loss sweeps over Sam, he is forced to go against the one he loves, in order to save the only thing he has ever loved. Will Sam and Becky's love for each other be strong enough to see them through? A heartwarming, inspiring love story that will keep you turning the pages. This is a standalone romance novel that will have you begging for more. Pick up a copy today and be inspired!"An entertaining and engrossing book...while the story depicts dealing with the day-to-day stresses and strains of family life in an intriguing manner, those who like their suspense fiction to have more of a thrilling aspect to it may find that wanting....Most highly recommended for fans of family sagas, contemporary fiction and women's fiction." - 5 Stars from Readers' Favorite"Based on a true story, this book shines due to the author's strength of writing in a down to earth way, all the while conveying an important message. This is a realistically depicted mystery with Sam, a native American, coming to terms with injustices in his community, and how he is perceived." - 5 Stars from V.E., Amazon Vine Voice reviewer "Sandy knows how to get her story across very successfully. She has mastered the flavor of small town interpersonal reactions as well as anyone writing. Not only is this a fine story, it also carries important lessons about prejudice." 5 Stars from Grady Harp, Amazon Hall of Fame, Top 500 reviewer "This is the second book I've had the pleasure of reading by Sandy Appleyard and I was not disappointed in the least. The writer managed to keep the suspense going from page to page. She also managed to bring the reader in with a real sense of the racism and discrimination that Sam faced. With amazingly written pages that so accurately depict the characters, the reader will feel like they are standing right in front of them. My heart broke at times, but I also couldn't help falling in love with the heart of the story. Phenomenal job!!!" - 5 Stars from Heather, Goodreads reviewer "This book gave me all the feels. It took a little while for me to be invested, but then I could not put it down! This book took place in the 80's, and the racism shown in that context is heart breaking, but real. I enjoyed the pace of the story, which covered a decade. All the feels. I didn't even realize it was actually based on a true story until the author's note at the end. After finishing the book, I keep thinking about it. It was a GREAT read!" - 5 Stars from Anna, Amazon reviewer

Author Biography:

Only my love for animals trumps my love of books. My husband and kids are up there, too. Since 2010 I've been writing and self-publishing my work, and I'm hooked. When I'm not writing, I'm working as an admin assistant, or I'm begging hubby for another cat....we have two...and I'm still working on a dog. I rise at an ungodly hour each morning to exercise, and my favourite quote is 'It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice'. I'm also allergic to chocolate.
