Let's Get to Know Each Other! The evolution of electronic communications has heads bowed and fingers moving on cold flat keypads sending out messages and thoughts often devoid of emotion. For years I'd sit in the choir loft singing at funerals while listening to the eulogies listing the attributes, family ties, education, associations, passions and hobbies of the deceased saying, "Wow, I wish I had known that!!" It seems to me that the only time we know another is at the goodbye funeral service when it's too late and the clergy mentions the deceased's life accomplishments. With today's electronics, we see not only youngsters but now our seniors frantically entering texts in the hopes that they get a soon response. Parents are seen at dinner tables, texting, yes texting the kids sitting next to them. All glancing downward waiting for the return reply rather than looking up at those around the table and engaging in vital conversation. Unfortunately, the human connection has been replaced with cyber mania which leads to non communications and thus lacking the emotions and intimate sharing of time and histories. The human voice is now robotic, a Siri if you will, existence of blank pages of life. And thus our histories go unnoticed and unfortunately not shared. The Nothing Book is an attempt to open those channels of communications before death. Taking a moment to jot down, draw, create poetry, tell your story in your own words as you record your life so that you not only have a memorial ... you're leaving a legacy in print and especially in your authentic treasured handwriting. And now, while you are alive and kicking, you have something to talk about! Here's to your fabulous something life!
