Description

Excerpt from The Old Records of the Town of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Vol. 3: A Copy of the Vital Statistics and Miscellaneous Records, Comprising Volume II., Pages 304 to 509 Inclusive, Volume IV., Pages 160 to 369 Inclusive, and Volume V., Pages 5 to 313 Inclusive, Being All the Records Contained in the Latter Volume We have copied and printed in this book vital statis tics and a few miscellaneous records from these three vol umes, which practically brings the record of vital statis tics down to January 1, 1843. As many of these records were made by Peter S. Snow, who was town clerk for five years, from March 3, 1824, to March 2, 1829, and Dr. Jonas A. Marshall, who was town clerk for twenty-four years, from March 2, 1829, to March 7, 1858, we have thought it appropriate to insert in this volume portraits of the above-named town clerks. The photograph of Dr. Marshall was kindly loaned by Mr. Thomas C. Caldwell, an Old resident of this city, but now of Dorchester, Mass, and that of Peter S. Snow was obtained through the courtesy of Mr. J. C. Moulton, photographer, of this city. Many of the intentions of marriage which appear in this book, especially in cases where only one of the par ties resided in this city, had no corresponding record of the solemnization of the marriage, but by means of cor respondence with the clerks of such cities and towns, I have been enabled to add a Short appendix, making the record more complete. The printer's Copy for this volume was prepared by Miss Bessie J. Davis. The work of printing has been executed by the Senti nel Printing Company in their usual careful manner, and the index has been prepared under the supervision of Mr. Frank C. Hoyt, foreman of that company. The same general method has been used in this vol ume as in former volumes with reference to paging, the heavy figures enclosed in brackets representing the paging in the original books.
