The game itself looks stunning, and is unlike any other game currently on the market. But unfortunately looks aren't everything. The game runs at an aspect ratio of 2.40:1. So it places black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Now at first it looks great but gets a tad annoying over time, as your view is restricted. As for gameplay, most of it is in a cinematic scene. So there is barley any freedom for the player. This game could have had potential but failed to deliver.

If you're looking for a game with focus on the story and still have killer action sequences, then this is for you. But if you're someone who likes the freedom of exploring, then this isn't the game for you.

Its a beautiful game – great graphics – and has a somewhat interesting story which has great potential

BUT

and its a big but! It has a major Sequel bait ending, which means half of the game's story is not concluded in the game. Also endless shooting galleries. Linear narrative games do not have to be as boring as this – e.g. The Last of Us. Just stay away from unless the announce a sequel

I picked up The Order 1886 on release day. I finished it, on release day. In saying that, it must mean the story held me. Which it did. In fact the story and the graphics were the best part of it, although the story left more to be desired and I felt as if it was cut short, and was surprised when it ended that ‘that was it’.

The combat and weapons were satisfying enough, given the limited amount of them their was. The quicktime events are what you expect them to be.. Except theres more of them you would expect. This doesnt take away from any situation, and in some cases can be unique and well executed.

I gave this game 3 stars, meaning average because thats what it is. The setting is refreshing with a nice atmosphere but struggles to feel realistic as there is always a clear path to where you can and cant go.
