"Life Changing"
5 stars"

I read this book on and off for about a year and a half until finally I reached 17 and read it start to finish.

It honestly a brilliant masterpiece.

Everything in it is so perfect, it is a complete must read for nay teenager and is just so full of menaing, struggles and pure innocence that it brought me to tears.

The main character, Charlie is such a pure spirit, he is innocent and nieve, but at the same time ten times smarter and clearer than anyone else around him. He is the beautiful kind of character you just want to pick up and hug and be around twenty four seven. He makes us see things through child like eyes, and grown up all-there-is-to-know-in-life eyes at the same time.

The plot is rich with strong themes, very strong themes, it is serious and deep, heavy and makes you think all day long, but written by beautiful charlie that you can read for hours and time feels nonexistent.

Not only is the plot line and characters amazing, but they way the book is formated is unique and fresh and utterly perfect.

Basically, I am in total love and awe of this book, and since it was so close to me , I dreaded the idea of it becoming a movie but oh em gee it was fabulous, Stephen Chbosky is an absolute genius.

But, as always, READ THE BOOK FIRST.

The poem in it is flawless and you can read the whole novel over and over again, each time finding new meanings and hidden relevances that just give you shiver.

Why are there not more stars to give to this masterpiece!

"I didn't expect to love perks as much as I did" Purchased on Mighty Ape

I was hesitant to read becuase it has a lot of fanfare online and I was sure that this book was something that was “overexposed” but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's a good book with fantastic characters and I recommend buying it. It always has a place on my bookshelf

Description

Charlie is a freshman. And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it. Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But Charlie can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower is part of an MTV Books series that targets teen-age readers. But it is more mature than most young adult literature and can be enjoyed by older readers as well." USA Today

Review

Grade 9 Up. "An epistolary narrative cleverly places readers in the role of recipients of Charlies unfolding story of his freshman year in high school. From the beginning, Charlies identity as an outsider is credibly established. It was in the spring of the previous school year that his best friend committed suicide and now that his class has gone through a summer of change, the boy finds that he has drifted away from old friends. He finds a new and satisfying social set, however, made up of several high school seniors, bright bohemians with ego-bruising insights and, really, hearts of gold. These new friends make more sense to Charlie than his star football-playing older brother ever did and they are able to teach him about the realities of life that his older sister doesnt have the time to share with him. Grounded in a specific time (the 1991/92 academic year) and place (western Pennsylvania), Charlie, his friends, and family are palpably real. His grandfather is an embarrassing bigot; his new best friend is gay; his sister must resolve her pregnancy without her boyfriends support. Charlie develops from an observant wallflower into his own man of action, and, with the help of a therapist, he begins to face the sexual abuse he had experienced as a child. This report on his life will engage teen readers for years to come." Francisca Goldsmith, Berkeley Public Library, School Library Journal.
